In Malawi basic learning resources cost an overwhelming amount compared to what a family earns? A single language book in Chichewa costs over £6 and a dual language book in Chichewa and English costs around £10. Buying pens, paper, crayons, paints, balls and toys is beyond what local parents can afford. Although the Malawian government supports setting up pre-schools it does not provide funds for any kind of educational support materials.
